Hotel rooftop sauna engulfed with flames

At 10 p.m. on Saturday, the rooftop sauna of a hotel in Pattaya, in eastern Thailand, suddenly caught fire. The sauna room was undergoing renovations, and admission was forbidden, according to hotel officials. However, a few visitors discreetly accessed the space, which started an unplanned fire.

The incident happened at a hotel on Soi Arunothai in the Chon Buri province’s Nong Prue sub-district of Bang Lamung district. The Pattaya News decided not to publish the hotel’s name until the fire department had a chance to look into it more thoroughly.

The sauna is part of a mixed area that also contains a fitness center and a sunbathing area on the hotel’s eighth floor rooftop. Police officials, fireman teams, security guards, and hotel staff all worked together to put out the large wildfire once it started. Even several hotel guests assisted with water splashing as they used chemical extinguishers and water spray to put out the fire.

Finally, after a concerted effort, the fires were put out. The sauna area and the nearby fitness center both had severe damage, which was later found by the authorities. While watching CCTV footage, hotel security staff observed smoke coming from the sauna area, which caused them to quickly climb to the rooftop and ask for help. The sauna room where the fire started was reportedly cordoned off for renovations and clearly marked as off-limits, according to hotel workers. Despite this, it was found that a few visitors had managed to enter the area without permission, possibly causing the fire to start.

Authorities are presently determining the extent of the damage and looking into the incident’s precise cause. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.
