Hacker of 100 government websites apprehended

According to authorities, a hacker who is suspected of breaking into at least 100 government websites has been detained in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai border district.

The suspect, known only as Warakorn, was apprehended just as he was ready to enter Myanmar, according to Pol Col Niphaphon Sukniyom, the superintendent of Bangkok’s Metropolitan Police Division 8.

Pol Col Niphaphon claims that the suspect used numerous official websites that he had hacked as the primary domain for his illicit websites.

Websites belonging to government agencies are typically displayed on the first page of search results, whereas websites that are unlawful are usually automatically blocked from Google searches.

The hacker was able to use the agencies’ notoriety to promote unlawful websites by getting access to their websites. According to Pol Col Niphaphon, the unlawful connections confused the public and harmed the agencies.

Worse, he continued, the inquiry revealed the suspect had setup bank accounts to accept money from the gangs who had employed him to hack the websites.

In order to conduct more interrogation, Mr. Warakorn was being held. Police have urged state agencies to routinely check their websites, particularly those that have been inactive for some time, for any unusual access.

A website might have been hacked if it shows an illegal advertisement. According to Pol Col Niphaphon, the agencies need to notify the authorities or deal with the issue right away.
