Pele, whose real name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, started playing for Santos at the age of 15 and for the Brazilian national team a year later. At the 1958 World Cup, he made his debut as a 17-year-old.

He was the only player to win three World Cups during his international career, in 1958, 1962, and 1970.

According to a statement from the hospital, he passed away on Thursday at 3:27 PM Brazilian time as a result of multiple organ failure brought on by his colon cancer.

Following the news of Pele’s passing, Gary Lineker was one of many who praised his legacy.

The most divine football player and happiest of guys, he wrote on Twitter.

He excelled in a game that only a select few selected ones have attempted.

World Cup champion for England Sir Geoff Hurst stated that Pele “remains the best of all time.”

“Pele is without a doubt the best footballer I have ever played against,” he remarked.

“For me, Pele will always be the best player to ever play, and I felt honored to share the field with him. Godspeed, Pele, and thanks.

Another footballer whose simple message was shared was “Rest in peace” was Lionel Messi, who is regarded as one of the all-time greats.

Pele’s contribution to Brazil’s third victory, in Mexico in 1970, has earned him a place in football lore because he was a vital member of what is perhaps the greatest international squad in history.

In 831 games throughout the course of his illustrious 20-year career from 1957 to 1977, he scored 757 goals, however Santos contends the number was closer to 1,000.

Pele personified the notion of football as the “beautiful game”

Following his passing, a statement on Pele’s official Instagram account stated that the legend “enchanted the globe.”

“King Pelé traveled a path distinguished by inspiration and love, and he passed away quietly today.

“Edson delighted the world with his brilliance for sport while traveling, put an end to a war, did humanitarian work all over the world, and propagated what he thought was the answer to all of our problems: love.

He leaves a legacy for future generations with his speech today.

Forever, love, love, and more love.
