Gambling websites gang smashed

Police raided a dormitory in Si Mahaphot district on Tuesday and arrested 70 people on charges of operating gambling websites.

Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau and local police searched a dormitory at Moo 10 village in tambon Tha Tum of this eastern province.

They arrested 70 staff and seized 1.3 million baht cash, three luxury cars, 87 computers, 20-baht weight of gold ornaments, 50 bank deposit passbooks, mobile phones and a 9mm pistol and some ammunition.

The detainees were charged with operating gambling websites in violation of the Gambling Act of 1935. They were handed over to Si Mahaphot police for legal proceedings.

Investigators said the gambling operation had about 200 million baht in circulation.

The dormitory had been rented on Dec 15 last year and used for online gambling, with staff aged 18-25 years, mostly from the South, working as website administrators.
