From 2024 DHL Express will use 9 Boeing 777 freighters that have been converted.

The cargo airline has decided to purchase nine 777 freighter modifications from Jetran while converting to a new generation of airplanes.

The purchase of nine Boeing 777 aircraft by DHL Express has been revealed. These aircraft have traditionally carried people, but they will soon be modified to carry cargo. The first of these freighters that have been converted is anticipated by the airline to arrive in 2019. It plans to have all nine of the 777s in its possession by the end of 2027.

The larger sustainability program of the airline includes this order. With the help of this effort, the airline hopes to replace its fleet of outdated freighters with more fuel-efficient jets. As a result, the company’s carbon emission output will be reduced while operating costs are decreased, allowing for increased profit margins and for further operational expansion.

Reborn are seasoned pilots

Ever since the jet era began, thousands of airplanes have left Boeing’s production lines. The majority of these planes were designed to transport passengers and served in that capacity for many years before being retired. Certain passenger aircraft, however, are chosen to be converted to carry cargo, saving them momentarily from a sandy grave in the desert.

Everything, even the cabin floor, is refurbished in these particular aircrafts’ interiors, which receive a thorough interior makeover. Following completion of the conversion process, the airplane re-enters the skies as a jet with a new mission and a brand-new livery.

To make the conversion and become Mammoth-converted Boeing 777-200LRF aircraft, nine Jetran Boeing 777-200LRs have been chosen. According to the airline, these aircraft will seamlessly integrate into both its present and future operations. The repurposed freighters will fly long-distance international routes for DHL Express.

optimized fleet usage

DHL Express has been attempting to optimize its fleet over the course of the last few years as it looks to the future. To address this, it has decided to swap out its outdated fleet with brand-new, more fuel-efficient airplanes like the Boeing 777F and Airbus A350F. As a result, the converted 777s will be used until all of the new aircraft are built and delivered, which will result in a significant reduction in fuel usage compared to the airline’s fleet of Boeing 747s.

The airline won’t have all the brand-new freighters it bought directly from the manufacturers before these 777s are transformed and delivered. The fuel economy of these 777s is still far higher than that of the majority of the current fleet, even though it is not as high as that of new airplanes. Additionally, they are significantly less expensive to buy, which will probably compensate for their brief remaining lifespans. These retrofitted planes will serve as a transitional aircraft in DHL Express’ fleet as it moves to a new generation of planes.

Regarding the changeover of the fleet, Robert Hyslop, Executive Vice President of Global Aviation at DHL Express, said:

“We are pleased to announce the addition of Mammoth-converted B777-200LRFs to the DHL Express family,

“By updating our intercontinental fleet, we can increase our established capacity to meet rising demand, reduce our environmental impact, and provide our customers with the highest caliber service all at the same time. We take pride in continuing to show our partners and clients how these developments improve our offerings and help us get closer to the objectives set forth in our Sustainability Roadmap.
