Everton FC has sent a heartfelt “get well soon” message to their former striker Kevin Campbell, who is currently “very unwell” in the hospital. The 54-year-old, who started his career at Arsenal, fell ill last week.
In a statement posted on X, Everton expressed their support: “Not just a great footballer but an incredible person, Kevin is, and always has been, a fighter. We wish him and his family well at this challenging time. Sending all our love.”
Kevin Campbell rose through Arsenal’s youth ranks, making his debut in 1988. After loan stints at Leyton Orient and Leicester City, he was part of Arsenal’s league title-winning squad in 1990–91. Campbell contributed to Arsenal’s FA Cup and League Cup double in 1993 and their European Cup Winners’ Cup victory in 1994.
Following his time at Arsenal, Campbell played for Nottingham Forest and Turkish side Trabzonspor before joining Everton on loan in March 1999. He made a significant impact by scoring nine goals in their final eight Premier League games, helping the Toffees avoid relegation. He then made a permanent move to Everton that summer and spent over five seasons with the club.
Campbell ended his playing career with stints at West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City, amassing a total of 148 goals from 542 appearances. Since retiring, he has worked as a media pundit.
