Foreigner arrested on FIVE-YEAR visa overstay
Thailand’s Immigration Police lay in wait for a foreigner at a private hospital after reports that the man had tried to get doctors to issue medical certificates for people stuck in Thailand so they could extend their visas.
Doctors had reported the man’s activities to their superiors.
He had reportedly offered bribes and gave promises that he would supply the hospital with customers.
When Mr Firoozi, 46, from Iran arrived at the hospital he had no personal papers with him but a check using immigration’s IT capability soon had him cornered.
It was discovered that he had entered Thailand on July 21st 2015 with permission to stay until October of that year.
That was the last time he went to immigration on his own behalf.
He was thus charged with being on overstay of 1,800 days.
Firoozi said that he had contacted many hospitals trying to get doctors to issue medical certificates and most of them had refused.
A search of his room turned up no medical certificates.
Neither the hospital or hospitals concerned were named by Naew Na though they said that Region 1 immigration was involved. –
