It’s Songkran, which means it’s time once more for everyone to wear garish flowered shirts.
As tourists got into the Songkran spirit, the season’s clothing was selling quickly at Poo Boutique at the Naklua Market on April 13.
Sales have increased during the Covid-19 years, according to business owner Sonthaya Seebanyen, as demand has outpaced supply. To keep up, Sonthaya claimed she needed to travel to Bangkok’s suppliers three times per week. Many of the orders come from businesses that aim to outfit their whole staff in seasonally appropriate clothing. Public institutions encourage staff members to spend the entire month donning vibrant Songkran shirts.
Anyone who needs to buy shirts in large quantities will find it challenging, she said.
Sonthaya claimed that spun-bonded nonwoven fabric, which is soft and comfy, is used to make the most well-liked shirts. Her store’s starting price is 200 baht. The cheapest cotton flowery shirts cost 190 baht.
Through April 17, Poo Boutique is open every day; however, it will be closed on Naklua and Pattaya “wan lai” days.
