An elephant was found dead in a cassava plantation just outside a forest in Chachoengsao on Tuesday night.
Officials have prepared an autopsy so as to determine why the pachyderm, which was about 15 years old, died.
At the scene officials found an electrified fence but the plantation owner’s father-in-law Yiam Panpetch said the voltage used was just 12.
“I found this dead elephant at 10pm on Tuesday. So, I alerted officials,” the 70-year-old man said.
He said the fence was electrified as he wanted to prevent wild animals from entering his house.
