Donations continue to pour in

Despite Thai rockstar Toon Bodyslam’s charity run across his country ending on Christmas Day, donations continue to pour in as the singer rests in the north.

At the welcoming ceremony in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district on Monday, the singer was presented with another THB25 million (US$761,250) from well-wishers as a thank you for his endeavor to run 2,191 kilometers to raise money for 11 underfunded hospitals, reported Thai PBS.

Monks also presented the singer with 20 money trees — decorative trees festooned with banknotes that are often presented for luck  — that held about THB1 million (US$30,450)

By 4:30pm yesterday, donations totalled THB1.2 billion (US$36 million) , or about 500 million more than the THB700 million (US$21 million)  Toon hoped to raise.

Toon, whose real name is Artiwara Kongmalai, told the press assembled that he felt like he was dreaming and could still not believe the kindness people expressed.

The 11 hospitals that will get the monetary benefit of Toon’s run are: Yala Hospital, Surat Thani Hospital, Ratchaburi Hospital, Chaophraya Yommarat Hospital (Suphanburi province); Saraburi Hospital, Khon Kaen Hospital, Chaopraya Abhaiphubejhr Hospital (Prachinburi province) Nakornping Hospital (Chiang Mai province), Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital (Chiang Rai province), Nan Hospital, and Bangkok’s Phramongkutklao Hospital.
