Police said Tuesday that the decapitated head of a man found dead at a Sapporo hotel earlier this month was recovered at the home of a doctor and his daughter, who were arrested on suspicion of injuring his body.
The head was recovered during a search of the doctor, Osamu Tamura, 59, and his daughter Runa, 29, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, on Monday. Hiroko Tamura, Tamura’s 60-year-old wife, was arrested on the same accusation on Tuesday, according to police.
The authorities are looking into the daughter’s relationship with the victim, 62-year-old Hitoshi Ura, who was discovered naked and decapitated in a hotel restroom on July 2.
The head will be autopsied, according to investigators. An autopsy of the deceased had previously showed that the cause of death was hemorrhagic shock.
There was no evidence of a third person entering the hotel room, and the daughter is thought to have committed the crime on her own. Osamu, a psychiatrist at a Sapporo hospital, is accused of dropping off and picking up his daughter.
According to authorities, Ura and another person, thought to be the daughter, checked into the hotel about 10:50 p.m. on July 1, with the other person leaving alone at 2 a.m. the next day.
Ura’s body was discovered later on July 2 by a hotel worker who went to the room to see why he had not checked out by the afternoon.
Security camera footage showed no one else entered or left the room between 2 a.m. and 3 p.m. on July 2.
Police have yet to find Ura’s belongings, including his clothes, phone and identification.
The incident occurred in the Susukino area of the city where many short-stay “love hotels” are located.
