In a rematch of last year’s Monte Carlo Masters, Novak Djokovic emerged victorious against Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, securing a spot in the quarter-finals with a straight-set win.
Djokovic, seeking redemption after his loss to Musetti in the last-16 stage last year, showcased his resilience by bouncing back from a break of serve down in the first set to clinch a 7-5 6-3 victory.
The Serbian, aged 36, continues to make history, becoming only the second player in the Open era to reach 10 quarter-finals at the Monte Carlo Masters.
Next up for the world number one is a showdown against Australia’s Alex de Minaur, who secured his spot in the quarter-finals by defeating compatriot Alexei Popyrin.
Reflecting on his performance, Djokovic acknowledged that he is not yet at his peak level but expressed satisfaction with his performance against Musetti, whom he described as a talented player.
Meanwhile, Italian second seed Jannik Sinner advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating German Jan-Lennard Struff, setting up a potential clash against either Holger Rune or Grigor Dimitrov.
However, fourth seed Daniil Medvedev suffered a setback, bowing out of the tournament following a loss to fellow Russian Karen Khachanov. Khachanov will face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals after the Greek player defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev in a thrilling encounter.
