A woman, unknowingly infected by Covid-19 and who failed to quarantine herself on return from abroad, spread the virus to her mother, Dr Opass Putcharoen, head of Chulalongkorn University’s Emerging Infectious Diseases Clinical Centre, said on his Facebook page today (April 7).
He explained that most people coming in for Covid-19 showed no initial symptoms or signs of infection and hence decided not to quarantine themselves for 14 days, which was wrong as Covid-19 has both asymptomatic transmission and pre-symptomatic transmission.
The daughter, in this case, showed Covid-19 symptoms after she had already spread the virus to her mother, who seemed to have a cold for six days though an X-ray result of her lungs appeared to be normal. A few days later, she could not breathe and had to be admitted to ICU.
Opass emphasised the importance of self-quarantine and wanted everyone at risk to comply with the Public Health Ministry’s measures.
