Pol. Lt. Gen. Akradet Pimonsri, Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, provided an update on the nationwide crackdown on illegal gambling associated with Euro 2024. The operation, which ran from June 14th to 20th, targeted illegal gambling activities both online and in physical locations.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Akradet reported that a dedicated Center for Prevention and Suppression of Illegal Gambling was established specifically for the duration of Euro 2024, from June 14th to July 14th. The initiative aims to prevent and suppress illegal betting on football matches across various platforms. During the operation, authorities apprehended 1,578 individuals for participating in illegal on-site gambling and 248 individuals involved in online gambling across 62 websites. These online gambling websites reportedly generated over 1.4 billion baht in circulation.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Akradet emphasized that all forms of gambling are illegal and that those involved will face legal consequences. The public is encouraged to report any illegal gambling activities or other crimes by calling 191 or 1599, which are available 24/7.
