A couple were killed when their bike sidecar was allegedly hit by a speeding van in Chon Buri province on Saturday morning.
Police said the accident happened at 6.30am on the Si Racha-bound Sukhumvit Road in Tambon Bang Phra, Si Racha district. One of the victims was identified by his identification card as Dusit Tharasak, 44, a local resident of Tambon Bang Phra. The other victim was a woman who has yet to be identified as she carried no ID card. Police said the van driver, Mana Klinhom, 49, did not halt at the scene of the accident but drove two kilometres before he stopped and waited for police there.
Mana reportedly told police that he did not intend to flee but he was frightened after the accident. He admitted that he was driving fast but he said the sidecar changed lane suddenly from the right to the middle lane in front of his van, as a result he was unable to stop in time. NT – EP
