Conor McGregor’s Comeback Fight Called Off

The highly anticipated bout between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler, scheduled for just two weeks from now, has been canceled. UFC President Dana White announced the news on X this morning, stating, “Conor McGregor is out of UFC 303 with an injury. It has been a crazy week here at UFC.”

The fight, set for June 29 in Las Vegas, will proceed with light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira stepping in to face Jiri Prochazka as the new main event. This match would have marked McGregor’s return to the Octagon since his leg injury against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

The McGregor vs. Chandler fight was announced in February 2023, but doubts about its occurrence grew after a Dublin press conference was canceled earlier this month. White did not provide further details about McGregor’s injury, and it appears Chandler was unaware of the cancellation, as he posted about the fight last night on X.

McGregor has been busy with Hollywood projects this year, while Chandler is missing out on what would have been the biggest payday of his career. Chandler, who joined the UFC in late 2019 after holding the Bellator lightweight belt three times, was a coach alongside McGregor in last year’s edition of The Ultimate Fighter, where his team outperformed McGregor’s.
