Chonburi man reportedly beat to death with a baseball bat by mentally ill nephew

Chonburi man

A young man suffering from mental illness reportedly beat his uncle to death with a baseball bat in Mueang Chonburi over the past weekend.

The Samet Police were notified of the incident on Friday, October 2, at a house in the Huay Kapi sub-district.

Police, emergency responders and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene of the incident to find the body of Mr. Sonthaya Arnpoe, 45, covered in blood next to a staircase.

His right leg was tied with a chain to the staircase. Samet Police believed that Mr. Sonthaya died at least three hours before his body was discovered.

Mr. Jetsada Raksutee, 27, who is Mr. Sonthaya’s nephew, was found at the house in a catatonic state. He also had reportedly attacked and damaged two nearby cars.

Jetsada told Samet police that he had fought with his uncle verbally which then led to a physical confrontation. He tied his uncle to the stairs to avoid his uncle being able to flee or fight back, according to his statement.

Neighbors of the men told police that Jetsada had severe mental problems after a road accident caused traumatic head injuries.

Jetsada was taken to a psychiatric hospital for an evaluation while police continue their investigation.
