World MotoGP champion Jorge Martin will miss the season opener in Thailand this weekend after suffering several fractures in a recent accident, his Aprilia team announced on Monday. The Spaniard, who previously injured himself in a crash during pre-season testing in Malaysia, has fractures in his left hand and heel.
He is scheduled to undergo surgery in Barcelona on Tuesday, and the Italian team confirmed he “will miss the Thailand Grand Prix.” They added that “recovery times will be determined after the surgery.”
This latest injury is unrelated to the earlier incident at the Sepang circuit in early February, where Martin broke his right hand and foot after being thrown from his Aprilia during a turn. Remarkably, he managed to walk away from a prior crash that day without injury.
Now 27, Martin made the transition to Aprilia after winning the 2024 championship with Pramac Ducati. Lorenzo Savadori has been appointed as his substitute for the race in Thailand.
