Cargo train partially derails in Phitsanulok

A cargo train carrying cement partially derailed in Phitsanulok’s Mueang district on Tuesday, blocking a road.

Narongsak Chantipmanee, an official of the Phitsanulok railway office, said the last two cars of the 12-car train had decoupled from the rest of the train and come off the rails at a crossing at Bueng Phra Road in Moo 2, Tambon Bueng Phras. The two cars hit a metal barrier and blocked the road at the rail crossing. Train driver Singchai Jinfai, 54, said his train had stopped for refuelling and the accident had occurred when it was moving away from the refilling station.

He said the coupling mechanism between the 10th and 11th cars had slipped, causing the 11th and 12th cars of the train to derail. Officials were waiting for cranes and other heavy machinery for lifting the cars back onto the track. EP
