It’s been a decade since Cameron Diaz graced our screens, last seen as the villainous Miss Hannigan in 2014’s “Annie,” which also starred Jamie Foxx. Now, Diaz is back in action—literally—in Netflix’s new action-comedy “Back In Action.” The star of “Charlie’s Angels” and “Shrek” reunites with Foxx in a film that sees them playing suburban parents with a big secret: they were once elite spies.
Directed by Seth Gordon of “Horrible Bosses” fame and co-written with Brendan O’Brien (“Bad Neighbours”), “Back In Action” follows Emily (Diaz) and Matt (Foxx), who have traded their espionage careers for a quiet suburban life. However, their peaceful existence is shattered when their old lives catch up with them, thrusting them back into the dangerous world of espionage.
The film boasts a stellar cast, including eight-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close, Andrew Scott from “All Of Us Strangers” and “Ripley,” Kyle Chandler of “Friday Night Lights,” Jamie Demetriou of “Fleabag” and “Stath Lets Flats,” McKenna Roberts (“Skyscraper”), and Rylan Jackson (“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”).
At Netflix’s recent Upfront presentation, Foxx expressed his admiration for Diaz. “After working together on ‘Any Given Sunday’ and ‘Annie,’ Cameron and I became real-life friends. I’ve been begging her to come back on screen with me ever since. There’s just something special about her,” he shared. Diaz reciprocated the sentiment, saying, “I couldn’t have asked for a better partner—on-screen and off.”
Audiences will get to see this dynamic duo back in action when “Back In Action” premieres on Netflix on 15 November.
