Bournemouth has finalized a club record deal worth £40.2 million to sign Brazilian striker Evanilson from Porto. The Cherries will pay an initial £31.7 million, with the opportunity for an additional £8.5 million based on performance-related clauses.
While Bournemouth had also considered Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah, sources have confirmed that their bid for Evanilson has been accepted, and the 24-year-old is expected to arrive later today for a medical examination.
Bournemouth owner Bill Foley previously stated they had backup plans in place in anticipation of a club activating Dominic Solanke’s release clause, which resulted in the England international transferring to Tottenham last week for a deal amounting to up to £65 million.
Evanilson received his first two caps for Brazil this year and was called up for this summer’s Copa America. Since joining Porto in 2020, he has established himself by scoring 17 goals across the Portuguese league and Champions League last season.
Prior to this deal, Bournemouth’s record signing was Jefferson Lerma, who joined from Levante in 2018 for £25 million.
