The murder-suicide of a foreign couple in their Phana district leased property is under investigation.
Phana police station superintendent Pol Col Chotnarin Sathupawarat said a 47-year-old Swiss man and a 40-year-old Moldovan woman were found dead in their two-story bedroom on Saturday.
The woman’s body was on the bed and the man’s on the floor near it, both with throat and arm knife wounds. Two knives and a dead poodle were found near the bathroom.
After seeing blood and footprints on the floor, he saw no signs of struggle and the couple’s possessions in order.
Pol Col Chotnarin said police are interrogating witnesses and awaiting the autopsy report to decide murder-suicide. However, officials have not ruled out alternative possibilities.
After an initial inspection, police and forensic investigators found the door locked and asked the landlord for a spare key. Post-mortem examinations were performed at Sappasitprasong Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani.
The couple’s acquaintance Suthima Pantho, 43, said the Swiss man sought her for cannabis oil guidance. The pair spent five months in Thailand.
Ms Suthima said she went to a local market with the woman on Thursday morning and received a message from her in the evening thanking her for caring for them.
After responding, Ms. Suthima received no further communication. She visited the couple’s house to check on them and found the shocking truth.
