Belgian Expat involved in Road Rage Incident

Danny, a 70-year-old expat who has lived in Thailand for 20 years, and Panisara, his 50-year-old Thai wife, approached the nonprofit organization “Sai Mai Tong Rod” for support in their efforts to take legal action against a Thai national who they believed to have attacked Mr. Danny while driving in the province of Chonburi.
A video that Panisara provided to Thai national media, which was shown on Channel 3 news and other major stations, showed Mr. Danny in an orange shirt yelling at an unidentified Thai male in a white shirt. Then, in English, the former could be heard exclaiming, “You are wrong!”
The wife of Mr. Danny attempted to stop the Thai man from approaching her husband on camera. But the man continued to shout at her, calling her disrespectful! See, do you? “Do you think he made fun of me?”

The Thai man then allegedly started attacking Mr. Danny, punching him and kicking him even after he hit the ground. According to Mrs. Panisara, the event occurred on October 16, 2023, and left her husband hospitalized with multiple bruises, a fractured nose, and two broken ribs.

In an interview with Thai media and on camera, Mrs. Panisara described the events leading up to the incident. She said that her young nephew was riding her bicycle on the village street when she abandoned it and fled home because a stray dog was chasing her.

Sadly, the man from Thailand accidentally crashed his pickup truck into the bicycle in front of him, which made him furious and led him to start phoning the owner of the bicycle.
When Mrs. Panisara heard the man yelling, she and Mr. Danny allegedly hurried out of their home. Mr. Danny yelled, “F*ck!” after misinterpreting the damage to his nephew’s bicycle and thinking that the pickup truck had struck his nephew. Mrs. Panisara claimed that the Thai guy misunderstood this exclamation as being intended at him, which led to an argument and scuffle.

Mrs. Panisara and Mr. Danny went to the Chonburi police after the occurrence to report the attack. The other party persisted in demanding that Mr. Danny pay for the damages to his automobile even after the police summoned both parties in for a discussion.

Regarding Mr. Danny’s medical costs, which exceeded 40,000 baht, and the 300,000 baht in damages that were demanded, his wife told local media that the Thai man refused the demands and challenged him to take the case directly to court.
The Belgain guy and his family are currently experiencing extreme fear and worry that they won’t get justice. They consequently made the decision to ask the Sai Mai Tong Rod group for assistance.

In an interview with the local media, Mr. Danny stated that the culprit would have been taken into custody right away if something similar had happened in his own Belgium.

He also apologized, saying that despite having lived and worked in Thailand legally for more than 20 years and paying all necessary taxes, he had never anticipated encountering this kind of problem.

As of the time of publication, it is understood that the foundation is attempting to communicate with the unnamed Thai guy in order to come to a mutually agreeable conclusion. This may still require the involvement of the Thai legal system, but the foundation will be helping.
