Following a road rage incident in Wichit, Mueang Phuket, in which a driver from Australia damaged the side mirror of a minivan, he is now being prosecuted on two counts.
According to Mr. Monnapan Makarapan, the minivan driver, he reported the incident to the Chalong Police on Monday, May 29. He said that his minivan and a sedan being driven by a male foreigner involved in a road rage incident.
Mr. Monnapan, the minivan driver, said to the police that a foreigner’s sedan instantly veered in front of his minivan and abruptly braked. Mr. Monnapan’s minivan nearly hit the sedan as it was being driven.
The sedan and minivan then came to a stop at a red light. When Monnapan stepped out of his car to confront the sedan’s driver about his reckless driving, the driver of the sedan allegedly attempted to run him over.
When the light turned green, Monnapan got back into his minivan and started driving. However, the two drivers persisted in annoying each other, with Monnapan repeatedly blaring his horn. After both cars had stopped on the side of the road, the foreigner struck and smashed the minivan’s side mirror before fleeing.
The male foreigner in the video is recognized as an Australian guy, according to Wichit Police Chief Colonel Chatree Chookaew.
However, the police withheld his name and age. When he was summoned to the police station, his friend from Dubai who had been with him during the event left for fear of the incident’s impact on their friendship.
The Australian guy is accused with two offenses: endangering the safety of others and harming their property. The Australian was released on bail. Police will nonetheless file the case with a district court on May 31.
The Australian man reportedly acknowledged that he was irate because the minivan driver was pursuing him and continually honking his horn. The Australian man added that he believed the minivan driver started the altercation by getting out of his car and confronting the foreigner.
