The Corrections Department has ordered prison officials in the South to closely monitor Tropical Storm Pabuk, which could hit the area this afternoon.
Director General Narat Sawetanun said he ordered the prison staff to have plans prepared in case of emergency.
“The prisons must have contingency plans to handle any situation the storm could cause,” he said. “They should include the evacuation of inmates to another prison in case of flooding.”
The wardens themselves would have final say on whether evacuation was needed, he said.
Narat said he had so far on Friday received reports from the South that the general situation remained normal, with only Pattani experiencing heavy downpours.
