Police have launched a manhunt for the ex-husband of a woman who was stabbed to death on her way to work on a Chon Buri road on Monday morning.
The victim was identified as Jinapha Chonrat, 40, a factory worker. She was stabbed once on her neck and died beside her motorcycle on the Chon Buri-bound Sukhumvit road in Muang district at 6am.
Police are hunting for Surasek Worathammapithak, her ex-husband, who was seen by witnesses fleeing on foot into roadside bushes, leaving behind his motorcycle.
The son of the woman, whose name was withheld, confirmed to police that the abandoned motorcycle and a workshop shirt left on the bike belonged to his father. The boy told police the man had been hounding his mother even though the two had divorced.
Thawatchai told police that he saw Surasek riding his bike to catch up with Jinapha’s motorcycle. He kicked her bike, causing her to fall. The man then sat on her and stabbed her on the neck.
Thawatchai said he blared his horn for the man to stop. Surasek was seen running around his own bike, trying to find the key, which he had dropped. He eventually fled on foot when a taxi motorcyclist stopped to see whether an accident had happened.
By the time an ambulance arrived, the woman had already died.
