Insurgent Bomb Injures Eight Rangers and Civilian in Pattani
PATTANI, Thailand – A roadside bomb explosion injured eight paramilitary rangers and one civilian in Muang district, Pattani, just before noon today.
Authorities suspect insurgents planted an improvised explosive device (IED) at a roadside construction site near Talubo Bridge and detonated it remotely as an armor-plated pickup truck carrying the rangers passed by.
The rangers were returning to their barracks in Narathiwat after getting their vehicle repaired at Inkhayut barracks. Following the explosion, the bridge was closed as an explosive ordnance disposal team swept the area for additional threats and collected evidence.
Meanwhile, in Yala province, security forces arrested three individuals suspected of involvement in the fatal shooting of Army Lieutenant Phuvivat Kamsong in Bannang Sata district on Tuesday. Acting on a tipoff, authorities discovered the three men taking shelter in a house in Village 1, Bacho sub-district. They were taken to the district police station for questioning regarding the officer’s killing.
Security forces continue to investigate both incidents as tensions remain high in Thailand’s southern provinces.
