Pattaya police swiftly apprehended a suspect in a gold theft case within 24 hours of the crime. The suspect stole a gold ring to fund his gambling and drug habits.
The incident took place on the evening of December 1, 2024, at a jewelry store in South Pattaya. The suspect entered the store, pretended to shop for gold rings, and then selected a one-baht ring. He shocked staff by casually saying, “I’m leaving now,” before fleeing the store with the stolen item.
In an attempt to escape, the thief discarded his jacket to alter his appearance and fled on a motorbike. Police quickly launched a manhunt and tracked him down on the street. However, the suspect abandoned his motorbike and ran into nearby woods, triggering an hours-long search.
During interrogation, the suspect, identified as Mr. Boon, admitted to the crime. He explained that he had previously worked as a hotel security guard but was fired. Left with no money, he decided to rob the jewelry store, which he believed was inadequately guarded by just a few women. After stealing the ring, Mr. Boon sold it at another shop and used the proceeds to buy drugs, gamble online, and purchase a new phone for his girlfriend.
Pol. Col. Nawin Thirawit, Superintendent of Pattaya Police Station, advised Mr. Boon to reflect on his actions, face the consequences, and consider starting a new life after serving his sentence.
