As of October 21, the construction of a roof over the walkway at Bali Hai Pier is 75% complete, according to Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai. The project aims to enhance the experience for both Koh Larn residents and tourists by providing shelter from the sun and rain.
With a budget of 8.8 million baht approved by the Pattaya City Council, the project addresses the needs of tourists and locals alike. The roof installation is being carried out alongside repairs to the existing structure under the pier. However, the project has faced delays due to challenges in the roof installation, resulting in penalties for the contractor for missing the original deadline in March. Despite these setbacks, work has continued.
Deputy Mayor Manot and the Engineering Division of Pattaya City recently visited the site to assess progress. The roof installation, spanning 310 meters, is intended to accommodate the thousands of tourists who use the pier daily. So far, 200 meters of the ceiling and 105 meters of the roof have been installed, with the contractor achieving an average of 10 to 15 meters of coverage each day. The project is expected to be completed by late November, in time for the New Year celebrations.
Once the roof is finished, Pattaya City plans to enhance the pier’s facilities, including the installation of lighting and CCTV cameras. The roof design will feature a wave-like pattern to complement the maritime theme and will use galvanized steel to keep costs down without sacrificing quality. This upgrade aims to create a more inviting environment for visitors to Bali Hai Pier and Koh Larn.
