Conor McGregor Urged to Consider Megafight with Paddy Pimblett

Conor McGregor has been urged by former UFC heavyweight fighter Brendan Schaub to consider a matchup against British star Paddy Pimblett when he makes his return to the octagon in 2025.

On his podcast, The Schaub Show, Schaub suggested that Pimblett would be the ideal opponent for McGregor’s comeback. McGregor had initially been scheduled to fight Michael Chandler in June but had to withdraw due to a broken toe sustained during training.

Chandler recently announced he will fight Charles Oliveira in November—a rematch following Oliveira’s TKO victory over him in 2021. This development has reinforced speculation that fans will have to wait until 2025 to see McGregor in the ring again.

While attending the Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois fight at Wembley Stadium, McGregor confirmed to DAZN his intention to return next year and stated that he aims to compete in two fights. “It will be 2025. My opponent that I had scheduled… it is what it is. I’m focusing on staying in shape, and I will be 100% ready,” he said.

In light of McGregor’s comments, Schaub posited a scenario where, if McGregor were to return in mid-summer and if Pimblett secured another significant win, a fight between the two could generate substantial interest. “Conor has a striking advantage, while Paddy would shine on the ground; it could be a fun matchup,” Schaub explained. He emphasized the appeal of Pimblett, who has become a prominent international star.

Schaub also mentioned Max Holloway as another potential opponent for McGregor’s return. The Hawaiian fighter recently earned a breathtaking knockout victory against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300, capturing the ‘BMF’ title. Holloway is set to face Ilia Topuria for the championship at UFC 308 next month.

With McGregor indicating his desire to battle two different fighters next year, both Pimblett and Holloway could be on the table as he aims to reclaim his status in the UFC.
