Newcastle 3-1 Tottenham: Isak Stuns Spurs with Late Winner

Newcastle United stunned Tottenham Hotspur with a 3-1 victory at St James’ Park, thanks to a late goal from Alexander Isak that came against the run of play.

The match saw Tottenham dominating large portions, but they were unable to convert their chances. The hosts took the lead with a goal from Luis Diaz in the first half after capitalizing on defensive errors by Spurs.

Despite being behind, Tottenham fought back and equalized through a fortunate own goal from Newcastle’s Dan Burn, who was unable to properly handle a cross. Spurs pressured Newcastle, creating numerous opportunities, but were ultimately undone by Isak’s decisive strike.

The Norwegian forward scored the winner after a well-constructed counter-attack, showcasing his clinical finishing to seal the match for Newcastle. The victory is a much-needed boost for Newcastle as they continue their quest for a strong finish in the Premier League.

In the post-match comments, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe acknowledged the team’s struggles but emphasized the importance of securing the win. “We did give a lot to the game—with incredible work rate and defensive discipline,” he stated.

Postecoglou: Frustration After Dominance
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou lamented his side’s inability to capitalize on their dominance: “We had the chances to win the game comfortably but walked away with nothing. If you don’t get that second goal when you have the momentum, it becomes difficult.”

While the performance was commendable in terms of possession and chances, Postecoglou noted that defensive lapses cost them the match, saying, “Questions will be asked about our attackers scoring just once from such opportunities. Our defensive concentration needs to improve for away games.”

With this defeat, Tottenham faces increasing scrutiny regarding their away form as they aim for a top-four finish in the league.
