Thai police have arrested two suspects connected to the tragic “Ya Dong Cluster” incident in Min Buri, Bangkok, where six people died after consuming herb-infused Thai alcohol.
Investigations revealed that the alcohol, known as Ya Dong, sold at a local shop in Min Buri, was contaminated with methanol and isopropyl alcohol, both highly toxic when ingested. Forensic tests conducted by the Thai Excise Department confirmed these findings, leading to an intensive manhunt. The suspects were eventually tracked down in Wang Noi, Ayutthaya, where they were hiding.
Despite their arrest, the two brothers denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the alcohol they supplied was a 95% ethanol blend, safe for human consumption. They also claimed they were unaware of any harmful actions by the shop owner, “Jae Pu,” to whom they sold their product.
Since August 22nd, the Department of Medical Services has reported 43 cases linked to the incident. While 27 patients have recovered, six have died, and 10 remain hospitalized, with seven in critical condition on ventilators.
Thai authorities remain skeptical of the suspects’ claims and are continuing their investigation. The men have been transferred to the Min Buri police station for further legal proceedings.
