A hidden camera discovered inside an air conditioning unit in a rented apartment in East Pattaya has sparked significant privacy concerns. The tenant who found the camera, Mr. A, has expressed considerable anxiety over the potential misuse of the footage. The prime suspect, a transgender caretaker with access to the building, has since disappeared and is currently unreachable.
Mr. A, 20, explained the unsettling situation: “I had been living in the apartment with two female friends for just over a month. On July 29, I came back to find the transgender caretaker leaving our room. She said she entered to fix an electrical issue because she was worried about a possible fire. Her explanation and behavior seemed suspicious.”
On August 7, Mr. A discovered water dripping from the air conditioning vent and found a camera lens hidden inside. “It was a real-time recording device, modified to draw power from the air conditioner’s wiring and equipped with a memory card slot,” he said. Ms. B, another tenant, immediately contacted both the caretaker and the apartment owner.
During the inspection, Ms. B recorded the caretaker discreetly, suspecting she might have removed the camera’s memory card. “The caretaker has since disappeared and is unreachable,” Ms. B noted. “Moreover, security footage from the day she entered the room is missing.”
Ms. B is deeply concerned that the footage, which captured private moments, could be distributed online. “I am committed to pursuing legal action once the investigation is concluded,” she added.
The victims have lodged a formal complaint with Banglamung Police Station. Deputy Police Inspector Pol. Lt. Col. Amnat Kamphon has initiated an investigation, which includes reviewing security footage and identifying the suspect. The transgender caretaker, who had worked at the building for over 10 years, is a central figure in the inquiry. Authorities plan to question all involved parties, including the building owner, and have sent the camera for forensic analysis. The police have assured a thorough and impartial investigation.
