One Turkish visitor said that a woman he met on a dating app conned him out of more than 100,000 baht. The victim was met by the woman, who was travelling from Phuket, in Pattaya. She departed a hotel room with his goods and cash.
Mr. Ruhan T., the victim, went to the Pattaya police on November 20 and reported that he had fallen for a scam. The event happened at an undisclosed hotel on Soi Pattaya Sai Song in the province of Chonburi’s Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district.
Speaking to authorities through a translator, Mr. Ruhan claimed that approximately three days ago, he met a Thai woman on a dating app. After a few conversations, Mr. Ruhan requested the unknown woman to come to Pattaya from Phuket so they could hang out.
The two visited South Pattaya’s Walking Street for sightseeing. Mr. Ruhan consented to accompany the woman to the hotel in question following the tour. When they got to the room, she motioned for him to get in the shower. But when he emerged from the shower after finishing it, he was unable to locate the woman.
Mr. Ruhan initially said that he didn’t give it much thought until he went through his possessions. He found that his iPhone 14 Pro, which was valued at about 30,000 baht, and the foreign currency he was carrying—roughly 2,100 dollars (73,000 baht)—were gone. He quickly rushed to the Pattaya police to report the event, feeling distressed over the loss.
At the time of publication, Pattaya police were looking through CCTV footage in an effort to identify the woman and locate her so they could file a lawsuit.
