In an attempt to increase tourism revenue, a group of Pattaya business owners gathered with law enforcement representatives to explore extending the permissible operation hours of nightlife businesses until 4 AM.
The Deputy Commander of Region 2 Police, Pol. Maj. Gen. Nanthawut Suwanlaong, Pol. Col. Thanapong Phothiti, Superintendent of the Pattaya Police Station, Mr. Pharadon Chainaporn, District Secretary of Banglamung, and pertinent officers from neighboring police stations, such as Banglamung, Nongprue, and Sri Racha, as well as local business owners, attended the November 1st meeting.
The purpose of the gathering was to talk about the Thai government’s proposal to allow Pattaya’s nightlife enterprises to operate until 4:00 AM. While nightlife businesses agreed that the extension should happen to increase tourism, some cops opposed it.
Maj. Gen. Nanthawut stated that although the extension would benefit the economy, it might also result in an increase in crime and accidents involving alcohol consumption.
The officer also voiced worries about the extension’s possible detrimental effects on daytime enterprises and possible increases in pollution from things like loud noises.
However, owners of nightlife establishments stated that they were in favor of the idea to increase the operation hours. In order to guarantee constant service quality, they also suggested expanding the boundaries of permitted entertainment zones to Jomtien and Naklua and underlined the significance of staff training at all locations.
The Thai government would get the observations and meeting notes for additional consideration.
In the meantime, in an effort to increase tourism during the busiest time of year, Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on October 30, 2023, that certain entertainment venues in designated tourist zones will be opening later.
The Thai Cabinet and Ministry of the Interior will continue to debate the proposal before making a final decision, which is anticipated by December 15, 2023.
Anutin underlined that all entertainment establishments need to maintain tight compliance with the law. Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Bangkok will be the program’s initial focal cities; other locations may be added in the future. However, Pattaya’s admission is still up in the air as final discussions take place before December 15th.
