Cathay Pacific flight avoids disaster in Hong Kong

293 passengers and 17 crew members were on flight CX880 to Los Angeles, and 11 of them had injuries while being evacuated from the Boeing 777-300ER.

12 wheels were damaged as a result of the aircraft’s rapid braking, a source claims. The Post has discovered that a Cathay Pacific Airways airplane that was hurtling down the runway for takeoff with 12 wheels damaged and flames licking the tires nearly avoided disaster at Hong Kong International Airport when the brakes were engaged.

Two passengers who suffered bone fractures remained in the hospital as of Saturday evening as a result of the unusual incident, which was caused by problems with a system that indicated wind speed and direction. The plane was carrying more than 300 people.

 

A person familiar with the preliminary investigation’s findings claims that the cockpit crew discovered the device’s issues when the plane was taxiing on the runway for takeoff early on Saturday.Flight CX880 from Hong Kong to Los Angeles, with 293 passengers and 17 crew members, aborted takeoff and was brought to a stop by applying the brakes. The source stated that 12 wheels were damaged as a result of the aircraft’s rapid braking, and the cockpit CCTV captured some wheel fires.

According to flight data given by Flightradar24, the emergency brakes were deployed while the Boeing 777-300ER was accelerating down the south runway at 154 knots (285 km/h) in preparation for takeoff. The aircraft then turned around and returned to its gate.One male and ten women, ages 29 to 77, were reportedly hurt while utilizing the emergency slide to evacuate the aircraft, according to the police.

Two female passengers who were hurt, aged 54 and 77, both had leg fractures and were still being treated at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Nine further injured people, ages 29 to 63, received medical attention at North Lantau Hospital before being released.
