Along with nine other police officers, Chonburi Police Chief Pol Maj Gen Khamphon Leelaprapaporn has been accused of demanding 140 million baht from suspected online gamblers at the Royal Thai Police Sports Club.
The accusations were confirmed by Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, the deputy national police chief. Suspects in the online gambling case filed the complaint with the Khu Khot police station, alleging that ten law enforcement officials and three civilians tried to extort them out of 140 million baht. Eight policemen, including the police chief of Chonburi, have been charged with three offenses: misbehavior, soliciting or accepting bribes, and extortion of another person. Additionally, two cyber police officers have been accused of fraud and extortion.
More than half of the ten police officers involved, according to Pol Gen Surachet, have admitted to wrongdoing. The two cyber police officers, who were wrongfully charged by the online gambling operators while asserting that they were uninformed of the purported extortion, refuted the allegations.
According to Pol Gen Surachet, of the three citizens involved, Phisit “Ton” Nakhisornpanee and Veera “Boy” Nasap escaped to foreign countries, while the third person’s whereabouts are still unknown.
Veera has stated that he intends to turn himself in to the police, however the precise day and hour have not yet been determined. Veera’s assets, which are thought to be worth at least one billion baht, are currently being seized, according to the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), which also claimed that it is currently monitoring Veera’s financial transactions.
