59-year-old claims feeling ill mid-flight but is unable to be revived by medical personnel; later passes out in the restroom of the aircraft.
On Monday, an Israeli man passed away on an El Al trip from Tel Aviv to Bangkok.
According to Hebrew media, the 59-year-old informed personnel that he was ill during the LY81 flight and was given permission to sit in business class where he was given oxygen and water.
Later, the man lost consciousness in the plane’s lavatory. He was given CPR by a volunteer for the ZAKA emergency service, a doctor, and a medic who just so happened to be on board, but they ultimately declared him dead, according to a ZAKA statement.
The encounter, according to the ZAKA volunteer, was “traumatic” for the travelers. The emergency agency said that one of the passengers indicated they felt “in good hands” because the volunteer was on board. For the remainder of the flight, the body was spread out across two seats, and ZAKA reported that they were attempting to bring the man back to Israel.
