Last night, April 23, around 10:30 p.m., Pattaya Police searched a nightclub for overstayers.
On Petchtrakul Road is where the raided club “Hollywood” is located. According to the policy of Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Surachet Hakparn, 50 police officers and immigration officers examined the location in an effort to target foreigners who are living unlawfully in Thailand or running criminal businesses.
The nightclub was found to have about 300 people inside, both domestic and foreign. Before separating foreigners from Thais for passport checks and drug tests, the police instructed venue managers to turn off the music and switch on the lights. Both groups have to adhere to the latter.There were 81 tourists from China, 28 from Hong Kong, 27 from Korea, 3 from Taiwan, and 2 from Laos.
The remaining customers and workers were all Thai. According to authorities, everyone was drug-free and in possession of legitimate passports.The Pattaya News, however, was informed by the authorities that they would keep up their efforts to put a stop to all forms of unlawful activity in the area.
It has happened before that Pattaya police have raided nightclubs and looked at foreign tourists’ passports. Police checked IDs and passports just before Songkran at a number of upscale clubs and venues on Walking Street.
To prevent human trafficking and the admission of kids to places like this one, they have also begun examining the places.
