There were 301 new Covid-19 fatalities and 20,902 new cases over the past 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Thursday morning.
There were 20,754 cases in the general population and 148 among prison inmates.
Over the past 24 hours, 22,208 Covid-19 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
Since April 1, around when the third wave of Covid-19 began, there have been 960,996 Covid-19 patients, 747,901 of whom have recovered.
Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 989,859 Covid-19 cases, 775,327 of whom recovered.
The death toll was at 8,492 in the third wave and 8,586 from the beginning of the pandemic early last year.
The 301 new fatalities made an actual new high of Covid-19 fatalities in one day because the 312 deaths announced on Wednesday included about 100 previously unconfirmed Covid-related fatalities.
The new fatalities were aged 26-105 years and 287 were Thai, 11 Myanmar, one Cambodian, one Chinese and one American. Sixty-one percent were elderly and 23% had a chronic disease
One patient died in prison, another was a nurse, three were pregnant women and four died at homes in Lop Buri (2), Chanthaburi (1) and Bangkok (1).
The Public Health Ministry said that 129 of the death caughtracted the virus from acquaintances, 30 from family members and 66 either lived in or visited outbreak areas.
Bangkok recorded 79 new fatalities while its adjacent provinces reported 62 deaths – Samut Prakan (21), Samut Sakhon (15), Pathum Thani (11), Nonthaburi (9) and Nakhon Pathom (6).
Central plains provinces had 97 more deaths – in Lop Buri (22), Chon Buri (20), Ayutthaya (16), Saraburi (10), Ang Thong (8), Sa Kaeo (4), Prachin Buri (3), Sing Buri (3), Prachuap Khiri Khan (2), Chachoengsao (2), Chanthaburi (2), Phetchaburi (2), Rayong (1), Trat (1) and Kanchanaburi (1).
The Northeast reported 23 new fatalities – in Nakhon Ratchasima (6), Si Sa Ket (4), Ubon Ratchathani (4), Udon Thani (2), Chaiyaphum (2), Khon Kaen (1), Amnat Charoen (1), Surin (1), Kalasin (1) and Loei (1).
The North reported 22 deaths – in Tak (7), Phetchabun (4), Sukhothai (3), Nakhon Sawan (3), Phichit (2), Uttaradit (1), Chai Nat (1) and Nan (1).
The South saw 18 more deaths – in Pattani (4), Songkhla (2), Yala (2), Narathiwat (1), Ranong (3), Nakhon Si Thammarat (2), Trang (1), Phuket (1), Chumphon (1) and Phatthalung (1).
The 20,902 new cases over the past 24 hours included 20,730 local infections and 24 imported cases.
Of the local infections, 16,885 were confirmed at hospitals and 3,845 via mass testing.
Bangkok had 4,392 new cases, followed by 1,739 in Samut Sakhon, 1,322 in Chon Buri, 937 in Samut Prakan, 644 in Nakhon Pathom, 639 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 585 in Ratchaburi, 495 in Nonthaburi, 481 in Saraburi and 472 in Chachoengsao.
There were 8,627 new cases at 141 new fatalities in Greater Bangkok, 752 new cases and nine more deaths in four southern border provinces, and 11,351 new cases and 150 more fatalities in 67 other provinces.
The 24 imported cases were from the United Arab Emirates (1), Israel (2 in the Phuket Sandbox project), Malaysia (1), Laos (1), Cambodia (6) and Myanmar (13).
On Wednesday, 205,946 patients received treatment at hospitals. Of them, 5,439 were seriously ill and 1,168 were dependent on ventilators.
As of Wednesday, 25.17 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered in the country, of which 5.50 million were second doses and 519,604 third doses.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 694,054 in 24 hours to 210.10 million. The worldwide death toll increased by 10,553 to 4.40 million. The United States has the most cases in total at 38.07 million, up 158,127, and the most deaths at 641,346, up 1,055.
