Tyson Fury has finally confirmed that talks to fight heavyweight rival Anthony Joshua are advancing and says there are ‘big, big offers’ on the table from a host of sites around the world.
The two British boxers are set to go head-to-head twice in 2021, though Fury has been very coy on progress over an agreement and barely a month ago suggested ‘chicken’ Joshua did not really want the fight.
But now a deal looks virtually inevitable with both camps to sit down and decide on a venue in the coming days, while Fury could not resist taunting ‘dosser’ AJ one more time.
‘Just had some big news, three or four big offers on the table,’ said the WBC champion on social media on Friday night
Interest from Saudi Arabia, my Gypsy brothers in Qatar, Uzbekistan, Russia, America, England – there’s some big, big offers on the table. ‘I’m going to go through them on Sunday and hopefully we’ll get this big fight on and let me smash this big dosser. ‘
This big useless dosser, let me say, because when I get him I’m going to give him that [raises fist], you big dosser!’
Joshua also posted an update on talks on his Instagram stories, writing: ‘Quick update. Myself, 258 Management and Matchroom are working really hard to make the fight happen. ‘
I want to give my fans what they want and you know I’ll do whatever I can to deliver.
Hoping to share some positive news soon.’ AJ’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, also told The Sun yesterday: ‘Both teams will have the options presented to them this weekend, so there will be discussions early next week.
We’re around the numbers which I think gets this done.
Once it’s presented, I think we’ll be fine.’ Although the British heavyweight clash initially looked most likely to happen outside of the UK, Britain’s rapid vaccine rollout has opened up the possibility of having a significant number of fans and London Mayor Sadiq Kahn would be keen for the fight to be staged in the capital.
Speaking to SNTV he said: ‘I’m keen to see Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury. Wouldn’t it be great to see those two champions boxing amongst their own fans?
We’ll do what we can to support Eddie. If Eddie and the teams want the fight in London, we’re ready.’
