Hungarian foreign minister tests positive for Covid-19 in Thailand

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto 42-year-old has tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in Bangkok on an official visit. The Minister had a high fever after arriving in the country. He received a test confirming the Minister had Covid-19. 12 other members in his delegation all tested negative for the virus. The Minister received 3-4 Covid-19 tests before flying to Thailand that all turned out negative for the virus. Peter Szijjarto planned to visit Thailand on 3-4 November 2020 on an official visit. The visit is to strengthen Thailand and Hungary’s relationship. 

Anutin Charnvirakul the Health Minister reported Peter was tested twice confirming he had Covid-19. He was sent to the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute for treatment. The plan is to return back on the 4th. The new plan is the Minister and other members of his delegation will travel back on a separate aircraft. All appointments on the original plan have been canceled. There have been 2 aircraft sent in by the Hungarian government and the team will fly to Budapest as planned. The Minister had on his schedule to call Prayut Chan-o-cha the Prime Minister at The Government House on the day of his return, but that too had been canceled. 

The PM made a statement on the issue stating “We will make sure he received medical care and is safe before he returns home, don’t panic”. As for the Covid-19 situation in Thailand today the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported there are 7 new cases in Thailand all foreigners traveling into Thailand from abroad. All cases tested positive while in quarantine at the state Quarantine, Alternative State Quarantine, and Alternative Hospital Quarantine. The 7 cases include a foreigner from Russia, Jordan, Kuwait, Italy, Maldives, France, and Sweden.
