The Thai Immigration Department now requires 9 separate documents from foreigners wishing to extend their stay by 30 days due to being trapped in the country from the coronavirus pandemic.

The new requirements, which have recently come into effect, require foreigners to submit a vast array of documentation including rental contracts, land deeds, and even selfies at their place of residence.
Here is the list in full:
- Certificate from the embassy
- Application for extension (TM.7)
- Two photos 4×6 cm (not more than 6 months)
- Passport and photocopies of the data page, visa page, latest arrival stamp, and departure card (TM.6)
- Map showing the applicant’s residence
- At least 4 photos of the residence including outside and inside the house
- Copy of ID card and house registration from the house owner (signed with phone number)
- Copy of rental contract
- Residence certificate
- Accompanying house owner for interrogation
Immigrations spokesperson, Phakkhaphong Saiubon, said the inconvenience was necessary for “national security” and that the new regulations are in place due to the sheer number of applicants. He said:
“Indeed, we are requiring more documents than usual because there are those who want to exploit the opportunity. We are doing our best to provide the best service, but bearing in mind that national security is our utmost priority.”
alk of automatic visa extensions for people who arrived in Thailand after March 1st was also addressed by Col. Phakkhaphong. He said the matter “is still being deliberated”.
To make matters worse, all immigration offices will close on Monday, April 6th due to the Chakri Day public holiday.
