James Ward-Prowse Corner

In the 79th minute, James Ward-Prowse fired in a Southampton corner form their right which ended up at the back post where Pierre-Emile Højbjerg hooked it back in. Southampton’s substitute Josh Sims tried to gain control but found himself bundled out of possession. As Sadio Mané tried to clear Ward-Prowse blocked him and the ball looped up to Jordan Henderson who headed forward.

Mo Salah – Six Seconds Later!

Mo Salah picked the ball up outside the centre circle in Liverpool’s half. Six seconds, and around eight touches later, he’d scored a wonder goal to put Liverpool in front.

As Salah ghosted through the centre of the pitch Ryan Bertrand tried to push him to his right side. Behind Salah Nathan Redmond sprinted with all his heart and just outside Southampton’s box it seemed he might make a telling challenge. Angus Gunn, in Southampton’s goal, stepped slightly to his right opening up the left side of his goal. In that split second Salah curled a delicious shot to Gunn’s left and right in the corner.

Shirtless Celebration!

Salah celebrated his 50th Premier League Liverpool goal in fine style by whipping off his shirt and pumping out his chest. He’d gone nearly seven Premier League games without scoring and the relief around the whole Liverpool camp was clear to see and not just because of the importance of this goal in this game. Liverpool were almost back on top and their talisman leading scorer had ended his barren spell.

Pattaya One: Liverpool celebrate.

Salah High Standards

Many words have been said about Salah’s dry run and the reason for that is because he’s set such high standards. But now he’s back, with a special goal, sandwiched between Naby Keita’s first Premier League goal for Liverpool and Henderson’s first for a year and a half.

Shane Long 50 PL Goals

Shane Long put Southampton in front after just nine minutes when he found himself with time and space on the edge of Liverpool’ six-yard box after Højbjerg had headed on  Bertrand’s cross. Long kept his nerve and finished well. Unfortunately for Saints Long missed a great opportunity to put Saints 2-0 up when he failed to connect with a Redmond cross after 18 minutes.

Liverpool 82 Points

During the 1989/90 season, the last time Liverpool won the title, they did so with 79 points and they lost five games. This season they’ve only lost one and are now on 82 points. Manchester City, with their game in hand and goal difference advantage, are still favourites. But the six second-half seconds, which determined the outcome of this game, keeps the absorbing title race alive and could well help Liverpool over the line!
