Canadian motorcyclist killed in Phuket road accident

A female Canadian motorcyclist was killed on Friday when she was crushed under the wheels of a truck she was attempting to overtake in Kata.

Karon police were notified of the incident on Kata Hill at 11am.

When police and emergency responders arrived they found a motorcycle on top of the body of a foreign woman. She has been identified by Karon police as a 29-year-old Canadian.

Her body was taken to Vachira Hospital in Phuket Town.

The truck driver Mongkon Sawenglab, who was waiting for police at the scene, said he was heading towards Karon from Chalong Circle.

When he slowed down at the hill, the foreign motorcyclist attempted to overtake on the left side of the truck.

He said he tried to move his truck to the right to let the motorcyclist pass but when the motorcyclist had almost overtaken, the driver suddenly braked and she lost control of her bike and fell under the truck.

The truck driver stopped his vehicle and called police.

Police are continuing their investigation and checking CCTV footage for further information.
