Arsenal Remain in Fourth – Mesut Özil Back With a Man of the Match Performance

Mesut Özil made a rare starting performance for Arsenal and just needed four minutes to open the scoring against injury hit and poor away day specialists Bournemouth.

Mesut Özil
During a man of the match performance, Mesut Özil scored one and made one to remind manager Unai Emery what he’s all about. After four minutes he picked up a pass from Sead Kolasinac, in acres of space in Bournemouth box, and clipped the ball above Artur Boruc in Bournemouth’s goal. Boruc could have been guilty of going down too soon.
Özil turned provider 23 minutes later when he took a pass from Henrikh Mkhitaryan inside Bournemouth’s box. As Boruc raced out to challenge him Özil clipped the ball back inside for Mkhitaryan to finish with ease. A classically executed one-two.
Temporary Setback
Matteo Guendouzi lost possession on the edge of Arsenal’s penalty box to Dan Gosling who provided Lys Mousset with an easy finish. That meant 2-1 at half-time but two minutes after the re-start Laurent Koscielny put Arsenal 3-1 up with a simple tap-in from Mkhitaryan’s cross.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the fourth on 59 minutes when he latched on to a through ball from Mkhitaryan, rounded Boruc, and tapped in. Alexandre Lacazette completed the rout in the 78th minute.
