extortion attempt

Eight policemen from Nong Chok police station in Phetchaburi have been dismissed after a scandalous video showed them demanding thousands of baht from a woman or they would send her for a drug test.

Footage of the video, posted on the Internet on May 31, shows the policemen asking the woman for Bt40,000, but she is seen saying she can pay only Bt33,000.

Provincial chief police Tianchai Kama-Paso today (June 2) ordered all eight policemen who appeared in the video – a lieutenant-colonel, a captain, three lieutenants, a sub-lieutenant and two senior sergeants major – to be dismissed.

The policemen were transferred to Phetchaburi’s police operations centre and will be investigated for prosecution.
