Over 11,000 people have been arrested and prosecuted for gambling on the World Cup 2018, deputy national police chief Chalermkiart Sriworakhan said on Wednesday.
Chalermkiart said the numbers had doubled since 2014 when 5,800 arrests were made.
Of the 11,000 arrested, 600 are bookmakers, Chalermkiart said.
He said Bt40 million had been frozen from the bookmakers and police have asked the Digital Economy and Society Ministry to consider shutting down or blocking access to 198 websites related to online betting.
