World’s Biggest Superyacht Worth $650 Million Arrives In Southampton

Superyacht

The world’s largest superyacht, worth an estimated $650 million (£513 milion), has arrived in Southampton.

The Dilbar turned heads as she cruised into the city yesterday (Friday) following a week-long voyage from Barcelona.

The 156-metre luxury vessel is comprised of almost 60 cabins and features two helipads and a 25-metre long pool.

She is the largest in the world by gross tonnage, weighing in at 15,917 tonnes, and the fourth largest by length.

The yacht can accommodate 36 guests and 84 crew and her 30,000kw diesel-electric power plant gives her an impressive cruising speed of 22.5 knots.

It’s unclear why she is in Southampton and how long she will stay for, but hey, if you’ve got the world’s biggest superyacht, why not spend a week cruising from Barcelona to Southampton?

So, who does this mega boat belong to? You guessed it, Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov.

The 66-year-old has a net worth of $15.8 billion (£12.47 billion), according to Forbes, hence he gets to have the biggest superyacht in the world and we don’t.

He owns publishing house Kommersant and is the majority shareholder of industrial conglomerate, Metalloinvest. If his name rings a bell though, it may well be because he acquired a stake at Arsenal Football Club, which he sold for almost $700 million (£552 million) in 2018… So that’s the Dilbar paid off right there.

The yacht was built by Lurssen Yachts at its shipyard near in Bremen, Germany, and was ordered to replace Usmanov’s other superyacht, which was only a pathetic 114 metres-long.

The Dilbar went on to win 2017 World SuperYacht Award for Motor Yacht of the Year, which is an award which presumably means something to somebody.

Dimitri Semenikhin, of Yacht Harbour, previously said about the ship: “Yacht projects of this scale never fail to impress, especially when Lurssen is involved.

“Dilbar is constructed in such a way that even through helicopter photo shoots, none of its features can actually be seen other than her two helipads.

“Although there are some outdoor spaces on the yacht, the majority of the living space is located indoors, which has led to Dilbar having the largest interior volume of any yacht ever built.”
