Wife and Policeman charged with drug dealing

After crystal methamphetamine was seized from their home in the Phunphin region of this southern province, a police officer and his wife were detained on charges of trafficking illegal substances.


Pol Snr Sgt Maj Pairat Yotmek, 52, of the Phunphin police station, has been fired from the force pending the outcome of a fact-finding investigation into his suspected involvement in the drug trade, according to Surat Thani police head Pol Maj Gen Sathit Phonphinit.


A team of police officers detained Pol Snr Sgt Maj Pairat, who works at a public service unit in Tambon Leeled, and his wife Chalermporn Sukhumthong, 44, at their home in the tambon on Thursday by a team of Border Patrol Police Company 417 officers and local politicians.


Three guns and 900 grams of crystal methamphetamine were seized from the premises.
The couple has been charged with conspiring to possess illicit substances with the intent to sell and illegally having guns.


The suspects were taken to the police station in Phunphin for further legal action.
